CWD conducts Public Hearing on Water Rate Increase
CATBALOGAN CITY - To cope up with the increasing water demand of our consumers, economic development and market prices, Catbalogan Water District (CWD) conducted a Public Hearing on Water Rate Increase held at Cocina de Cabral, Catbalogan City.

The said event was observed by the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) representatives Myra Montaño and Engr. Antonio Palencia and PAWD President Alma Abrasaldo for the evaluation of the public hearing.

The opening remark is given by Sanggunian ng Bayan Member Hon. Maximo Pescos in behalf of Hon. Mayor Stephany Uy-Tan. "There is now a need for our Catbalogan Water District to increase the water rate because the present water rate of Php 175.00 has been implemented since year 2006 and its now year 2017. Our water district is growing--there is an increasing demand due to growing economic activities in the City of Catbalogan, while the prices of commodities are also increasing," he noted.
"As I reported to work in Catbalogan Water District last July
2005, its water service connection were (only) more than
4,000," said CWD's General Manager Engr. Ralph S. Uy in
his overview about Catbalogan Water District. "In the year
2006, we implemented the last approved water rate increase in the amount of Php 175.00. But now, with the increase of water demand of our consumers, we need to expand our transmission line-- with these number of 9,200 water consumers," he added.

Moreover, Mr. Exequiel C. Cabrigas III, CWD's Senior Project Planning and Development Officer, presented a Powerpoint presentation about the data used and the basis of LWUA in their water rate review and evaluation.

The proposed new water rate with the minimum charge for Residential/Government consumers is said to be at Php 232.00/cu.m., while the Commercial/Industrial is expected to be ranging at Php 464.00. Both increased by 24.5% from their current rates of Php 175.00 and Php 350.00 per cubic meter, respectively.

The last part of the program was an open forum between the CWD management and the public whici ended at 12:20 noon with a closing prayer.

Furthermore, there is no specific date yet as to when the said water rate increase will be effective and implemented, considering LWUA's approval.
